Employee Spotlight – Bryan Gilliss

Employee Spotlight:
Bryan Gilliss

on Growth, Change, and Collaboration

As Medispend continues to grow as a connected ecosystem of companies and teams coming together, the experiences of our people matter more than ever.

In this spotlight, we’re excited to introduce Bryan Gilliss and share his journey—where he was before the Medispend integration, how his role has evolved, and what inspires him as part of our expanding organization.

Bryan, take us back—where were you before joining the Medispend organization, and what was your role at that time?

Before joining the Medispend organization, I was working at RLDatix Life Sciences primarily as the Product Owner of GST, our Global Spend Transparency platform, but also the Product Manager of Universal Contract Manager, or UCM, which was a product that stayed with RLDatix as part of the merger.

What was it like coming together under the Medispend umbrella?

How did the integration change your day‑to‑day work, your team, or how you think about the value we deliver to customers?

After joining the Medispend organization, my initial day-to-day stayed relatively the same as I was transitioning roles, especially as GST was currently going through Jurisdictional Reporting Season, but as that work began to slow, I was brought into the Commercial Team where I am working now as a Solutions Engineer, primarily focusing on our Compliance offerings.

I’ve enjoyed working with everyone on the team so far, most closely with our Senior Solutions Engineer Matt Ballagerion, and our Sales Team of Brian Flaherty, Caitlin Wixted, & Kevin Glacken, but have also gotten the chance to meet with some from the Marketing Team as well.

While I was always aware of the many solution offerings we had as an Organization, getting the chance to be much more hands on with all the products instead of focusing on just one has really helped me see just how complete of a solution offering we have at Medispend, being able to help Life Science Companies at any step of their process, including it all!

What keeps you excited about working at Medispend today?

What keeps me excited about working at Medispend today is the variety we have and offer as an organization. With such a broad range of product offerings, every day, and every demo, feels a little different, which keeps the work engaging and dynamic. On top of that, the steady flow of new enhancements and innovations makes it easy to feel excited about where we’re headed. Just as important, I really value the opportunity to collaborate with so many different teams across the Medispend organization. That cross-functional connection not only strengthens our work but also makes the experience more rewarding overall.

What does your current role involve, and how has it evolved as our platforms and teams have become more connected?

In my current role, I’ve found that the focus has shifted more toward the “why” behind our software rather than just the “how.” As we’ve grown as an organization, I’ve moved into more of a storyteller role—helping to connect the dots for clients and internal teams by highlighting the value, purpose, and impact of our solutions, rather than serving strictly as a technical trainer.

While my primary focus is on our Regulatory, Compliance, and Medical Affairs products, the increased collaboration across teams has given me the opportunity to engage with a wide range of colleagues and perspectives. Through those interactions, I’ve been able to deepen my understanding of how our clients are using individual solutions today, while also staying closely aligned with what’s ahead in terms of upcoming enhancements. It’s made the role more holistic and has really reinforced how interconnected our work has become.

What originally inspired you to work in this space (life sciences, healthcare technology, compliance, enablement, etc.)?

What originally inspired me to work in this space really comes down to a passion for problem solving. Whether it’s thinking through enhancement ideas from a technical perspective or finding creative ways to make existing features work for a specific challenge, I’ve always been drawn to opportunities where I can dig in and figure things out.

The life sciences and healthcare technology space naturally supports that interest because of the variety and complexity of challenges it presents. From navigating internal processes to addressing regulatory and compliance requirements, there’s always something new to solve, which keeps the work both engaging and meaningful.

Another major factor for me was the people. The team I originally joined played a big role in my decision to come on board, and that sense of collaboration and support has remained consistent as I’ve moved across different roles and teams.

What’s your favorite part of the work you do—or the team you work with?

My favorite part of the work I do is the people and the variety that comes with it. I have the opportunity to connect with colleagues across the Medispend organization, as well as with a wide range of external partners and organizations we support. Those interactions bring new perspectives and make the work feel both collaborative and impactful.

At the same time, no two days are exactly alike. Each day brings a different challenge or problem to solve, which keeps things interesting and allows me to continuously think creatively about the best way to approach a solution. That combination of strong relationships and dynamic problem-solving is what I find most rewarding.

What advice would you give to someone looking to join this field or be part of an evolving organization like Medispend?

My advice to someone looking to join this field, or become part of an evolving organization like Medispend, would be to stay curious and never hesitate to ask questions. There’s a lot to learn across healthcare technology, compliance, and life sciences, and asking the right questions is one of the best ways to build a deeper understanding and continue growing.

I’d also say to always expect the unexpected and continuously think ahead, applying the knowledge you’ve gained along the way. In a space where new laws, regulations, and industry expectations are constantly emerging, being proactive rather than reactive can make a big difference, not only for your own growth, but for the teams and clients you support as well. Being adaptable and open to change is a huge advantage.

To get to know Bryan a little better, we also asked him to share a few current favorites:

Bryan’s Current Favorites

  • TV Show: Movie? Almost Famous/Lord of the Rings Trilogy
  • Travel Spot: Colorado, especially the Northern area around Fort Collins & Rocky Mountain National Park
  • Favorite Quote: “Stay hungry. Stay foolish.” – Steve Jobs

If you weren’t doing this job, what do you think you’d be doing instead?

Would love to own a small restaurant/food truck, but definitely something in the food service industry

What’s one thing your teammates might be surprised to learn about you?

As a kid, spent many of my summers in the late 90’s & early 00’s traveling across the US with my brother, parents, and family dog in an RV, with barely any access to internet or tech. Made our way across the country using just maps and road signs, which led to many fun side adventures that were not planned!
